One Pot French Onion Orzo

thinly slice the onions

mince the  garlic cloves

heat oil and butter  over medium

add onions,  cook for  15 minutes

add garlic, salt,  pepper, thyme and  brown sugar,  cook for 10 minutes

deglaze with  white wine,  simmer for  3 minutes

remove 1/3 of  the onions,  set aside

stir in orzo

pour in beef broth,  bring to a boil,  simmer for  15 minutes

stir in grated  Gruyère cheese

return onions  to skillet,  add parsley and  black pepper
