Mussels and Shrimp in Garlic Tomato Sauce

combine shrimp with salt, pepper and paprika, set aside

thinly slice the onion

chop the celery stalk

mince the garlic

prepare 2 bowls with cold water

add the mussels to one bowl, then throw the cleaned mussels in the other bowl

remove the beards attached to the sides of the shells by tugging firmly

you can also use a knife, make sure to tug it toward the hinge of the mussel shell

rub off any leftovers of seaweed, sand and barnacles

if you find any mussels with open shells, pinch them between your fingers, discard if it doesn't close

drain the cleaned mussels

heat oil and butter over medium, place shrimp  in a single layer

sear, 1 minute per side

remove from skillet

add onion, garlic and celery stalk, cook for 2 minutes

stir in tomato paste

add salt, pepper, paprika, sugar, chili flakes and bay leaf

add peeled tomatoes, break up into pieces

add thyme sprigs and mussels

pour in chicken broth, stir, cover and steam for 6 minutes

stir in shrimp

cover, steam for 2 minutes
