How to make shrimp in a creamy mushroom sauce
Here’s the breakdown: We start by briefly marinating the shrimp to pack in flavor. While the shrimp soak up the seasoning, we prep the rest of the ingredients so the cooking process flows smoothly. Once ready, we sear the shrimp – it only takes 2 minutes!
Next, we sauté the mushrooms until golden, then toss in garlic and Italian seasoning for that aromatic boost. Pour in the cream and stir in grated Parmesan, letting it gently simmer on low heat to achieve the perfect velvety consistency. The Parmesan does all the work to thicken the sauce beautifully.
We finish with fresh parsley, stir the shrimp back in, sprinkle with red pepper flakes, and you’re done! It’s that quick and simple!

Creamy mushroom with shrimp ingredients
- Shrimp: Large shrimp are best for flavor and texture. Make sure to thaw, peel and devein them before cooking.
- Mushrooms: Brown mushrooms are the star here, but you could also use cremini or shiitake mushrooms.
- Garlic: A must-have! We’re using 6 cloves, but garlic lovers can go up to 8 cloves for an extra kick.
- Seasoning: A simple mix of salt, black pepper, garlic powder, sweet paprika and Italian seasoning. You can swap for dried thyme or oregano if you prefer.
- Cream: Heavy cream works best for a luxurious texture, but 20% fat cream is a good alternative. For a dairy-free option use unsweetened full fat coconut milk, coconut cream or soy cream.
- Parmesan Cheese: Freshly grated is key for a smooth, creamy consistency. For variety, try Grana Padano or Asiago.
- Herbs: Fresh parsley adds a light, refreshing touch to balance the richness.
- Olive oil and unsalted butter: Used to sear the shrimp, creating a flavorful base for the dish.

Recipe tips
- Pair this dish with a big leafy side salad drizzled with balsamic dressing, and serve with sourdough bread or garlic bread for the ultimate combo.
- It’s also fantastic served over pasta, mashed potatoes or creamy polenta.
- Prep all your ingredients ahead of time, this dish cooks quickly from start to finish, so having everything ready will make it seamless!

Storage
- Refrigerator: Let leftovers cool completely at room temperature before transferring them to an airtight container. Store in the fridge and enjoy within 2 days for the best quality.
- Reheating: Warm gently in a nonstick pan over medium-low heat with a splash of milk, just until heated through. Avoid simmering the shrimp too long, as they can become chewy.
- Freezer: This recipe isn’t ideal for freezing.
